Success or failure depends more upon attitude than upon capacity successful men act as though they have accomplished or are enjoying something. Soon it becomes a reality. Act, look, feel successful, conduct yourself accordingly, and you will be amazed at the positive results.” – William James

One could read this quote and either feel inspired or de-motivated according to where we might be at with our life or business right now. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying ‘fake it till you make it’ and this pretty much says the same thing, as we may not always have the ability or the capacity, to begin with, but can work towards it as everything we do builds on our experience and knowledge. Our attitude is a powerful tool which we can choose to either let it have a positive or negative influence on us. Depending on our attitude we relate to and communicate with others.

Either we are going to have a ‘woe is me’ mentality or a ‘look at me, I’m doing great’ persona’. There is a school of thought which states, ‘dress the person you want to be, not the person you are right now’. If we have the right attitude, and communicate positively with others, AND are dressed the part, we would be a force to be reckoned with. In the quote it also mentions enjoyment. Not only should we do something every day which gives us joy, but we should be making the most of every moment, and if we don’t like what we’re doing we should think about doing what we love, what we have a passion for.

We need to have the internal flame to want to do what we do, to give us that ‘get up and go mentality’. To enable us to be a success, and to prevent ourselves from being or becoming a failure, we need to choose our attitude, and make sure it’s the right attitude, because thats what counts. If we act, look, feel successful and conduct ourselves accordingly we WILL be amazed with the positive results. It’s our choice, and we need to make sure it’s the right one if we want to accomplish great things and be someone whom others will look upon and want to aspire to.
