A Lot of Hot Air!
Have you ever come across someone whom you might have referred to as ‘spouting a load of hot air’? If we were to look at this in more detail, it’s an idiom meaning talking a lot, especially without saying anything of value or meaning. There are those who are sincere and say what they mean and mean what they say, whilst others say they will do something and never do it! If these people are directly involved in our lives and their insincerity impacts on us, then we have a challenge in front of us! This lack of sincerity can be a barrier in us achieving what we want, particularly if we’re relying on them in a work or business sense.
What do we or can we do with those who talk the ‘idle’ or ‘empty’ talk? Do we ignore what they said taking it with a pinch of salt and just move on completely disregarding their statement or do we ‘call’ the person on this and try and find a resolution that’s mutually beneficial for all or both parties?
Depending on the relationship we might have with the person who is ‘talking a load of hot air’, and what the situation is, would depend on how we might deal with it.
We could look at this another way and reflect on how we come across to others. Have we ever said something that is deemed to be ‘idle’ or ‘empty’ talk, and more importantly, why might we have done this? We can reflect on how people behave towards us and look at how we might behave towards them. We are always learning and can think about how we come across with others to identify how we might make positive changes.
The lesson here perhaps is to say what we mean and mean what we say and if we say we are going to do something to mean it and do it. What’s the golden rule?
Treat others how you want to be treated.
If we all applied this rule, then no-one would spout ‘hot air’ as we would all be respectful of what we say to others and be sincere! Wouldn’t that be a wonderful world!
