Often, we are afraid of making the wrong choice and the consequences of our choices.

As Jim George is quoted as saying “There are always consequences to wrong choices”? However, if we believe this to be true we would never move forward, never take risks and never grow personally or professionally for fear of making a mistake or feeling a failure.

It’s up to all of us as individuals to decide on what we want out of life, and so could decide instead to focus on more positive quotes, for example, Nelson Mandela, who is quoted as saying “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears”.

This quote is perfect to focus on as it suggests our choices are our dreams and our goals or aspirations. We can always hope for more out of life and by stretching ourselves and taking ourselves outside our comfort zone we can only grow personally and professionally.

We should accept that fear is something we will always have to live with, because as we grow we take ourselves outside of our comfort zone which can feel scary, however, we won’t know until we try.

JK Rowling said, “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” This quote very clearly shows that we are often determined by our choices, because our choices are vast and may far outweigh out abilities. Often, we are constrained by our abilities, however, when making choices we stretch our abilities.

It’s helpful to remember that everything in our lives reflects a choice we have made at some point in time. Sometimes we keep making the same choices without realising if we want a different result, we need to make a different choice.

Feel confident in thinking outside the box when listing your options or considering your choices. Don’t put the barriers up of ‘I can’t’ or focusing on the obstacles ahead, as these are usually perceived obstacles with a way around them.

Every day in every way we have choices and we would all do well in remembering – we ALL have choices, don’t we?
